7/23/24
Game 1:
Coming into the game, the Mets looked to win their second game in a row after breaking a 3-game losing streak in a 3-2 win vs. the Reds, which they did, winning 7-5.
The game started rough for the Mets, as after three innings, they were already down four runs, with Kodai Senga allowing four hits, three walks, and all four runs. The Mets were able to cut the lead in the 4th with a Brett Baty 2-run home run, and that was until the Angels tacked on another run to make the score 5-2.
In the 7th inning is when the Mets put the pedal to the gas and tied the game up at 5, thanks to a Lindor RBI fielder's choice and a game-tying 2-run single from Soto.
After a scoreless top of the 8th from the Angels, the Mets took the lead in the bottom of the 8th with Nimmo and Mauricio RBIs. When the top of the 9th came, Edwin Díaz came in to close out the game, which he was able to do after striking out 3 batters, grabbing his 20th save of the year and lowering his ERA to 1.60.
Game 2:
Coming off a high comeback win the previous night, the Mets were back on their comeback winning ways.
Up until the bottom of the 5th inning, the Mets were getting shut out, had only a couple of hits, and Frankie Montas gave up 2 runs. Then the Mets flipped the script in the bottom of the 5th as Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run home run to tie the game. However, the Mets weren't done there, as Nimmo gave the Mets the lead with an RBI single to bring Mauricio home.
The Mets would go on to close this out and win 3-2 thanks to Garcia, Garrett, and Stanek pitching a combined 3.1 innings, 2 hits, 5 strikeouts, and 0 runs in relief.
Game 3:
Heading into game 3, the Mets looked for their first series sweep since early June, and they were able to complete the sweep after a 6-3 win.
The Mets had a perfect first inning after Sean Manaea struck out the side and Brandon Nimmo launched a solo shot to put the Mets up 1-0.
The Angels would even things at 1 in the top of the 3rd, but the Mets separated themselves after a 4-run 3rd inning with a Lindor RBI single and Pete Alonso's 3-run homer. In the 4th, Lindor tacked on another run with an RBI single, and after a couple of runs by the Angels in the 7th, Edwin Diaz would get his 21st save of the year, and the Mets would complete the sweep.
