Fresh off a walk-off win over the Rangers to snap an 8-game losing streak, the Mets continued that momentum with a win over the Padres.
Tonight, the Mets went with a piggyback game with Clay Holmes and Sean Manaea, which proved to be effective. Clay Holmes started the game and went 4 innings, giving up 2 runs, 3 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 2. Sean Manaea would go 5 innings, giving up 1 run, 4 hits, 0 walks, and striking out 3.
The Mets started scorching hot, Nimmo hit a single to bring home Lindor, NcNeil doubled to right to score Alonso, and Brett Baty capped off the explosive inning with a 2-run homerun.
The Padres tried to cut the lead in the 2nd inning with a Jackson Merrill solo homerun, but Lindor and Alonso hit two solo shots into the upper deck in the same inning to make the score 7-1.Â
The Padres exchanged with a solo shot from Jake Cronenworth, but Cedric Mullins would hit a solo shot in the same inning to make the score 8-2.
Things went silent the rest of the game, other than a Fermin solo homerun in the 8th.
It is important to note that the Mets would fail to get a run off the Padres' bullpen in 5 innings.
The Mets would go on to win 8-3 and are back in action tomorrow with Peterson on the mound.
