9/2/25
Just 2 days into September, and the Mets as a whole are already looking like it might be their best yet.
12 runs and 3 home runs powered the Mets to a 12-5 win against Detroit.
The Mets started hot with a solo shot from Alonso, then the Tigers answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st.
From then on, the Mets took the lead and carried the game away.
The Mets scored 3 runs in the fourth with a McNeil RBI single, Mullins sac fly, and Torrens homerun to make the score 6-2 New York.
And in the 7th, who else but Juan Soto hit a home run, which made it his 5th in 5 games. Continuing in the 7th, Alonso went yard, McNiel and Bat had RBI singles, and Lindor had a sac fly to make the score 12-2 NY.
The Tigers were able to get 3 runs back in the 9th when Kevin Herget came onto pitch, but that was not enough, and the Mets would win 12-5.
On the mound for the Mets was Nolan McLean, and yet again, he was special. After giving up 2 runs in the first inning, he went on to pitch 5 scoreless innings and only 1 hit. His final stat line came to 6 IP, 2 ER, 3 hits, 7 strikeouts, and 3 walks, and earned the W to bring his record to 4-0.
The Mets will look to sweep the American League’s best tomorrow with Clay Holmes on the mound.
