7/30/25
Game 1:
In the first game of the series, the Mets lost a tough one and ended their 7-game winning streak against the Padres.
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Mets struck first with a Brett Baty sacrifice fly to bring Jeff McNeil home. However, it did not take long for the Padres to respond because in the 3rd inning, Xander Bogaerts hit an RBI single to bring Manny Machado home and even things at 1.
In the 5th inning, things took a turn. Amid the trade rumors, Mark Vientos hit a grand slam on a 3-2 count and 2 out, to make the score 5-1.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Padres took the lead after Luis Arraez hit a 2-run home run off Cronenworth reached on an infield single to first to bring Machado home, Bryce Johnson single to bring Bogaerts home, and Elias Diaz single to grab the 6-5 lead.
Both teams would be silent until the 9th inning, until Ronny Mauricio hit a solo home run to tie the game. However, in the bottom of the 9th, Gregory Soto would come into the game and earn the loss after allowing a walk-off hit to Elias Diaz, and the Mets would lose and end their 7-game winning streak.
Game 2:
Coming off a loss the night before, the Mets were looking to even the series with a win, which they were unable to do and lost 7-1.
The Padres struck first in the 1st inning when Jackson Merrill hit a single to bring Tatis home to put the Padres up 1-0.
The Mets then responded to that in the 5th with a Marte sac fly to bring Baty home.
From then on, since Manaea got pulled after 5 innings, only giving up 1 run and 3 hits, things went downhill. Jose Butto came into the game and gave up 5 runs and 5 hits across the 6th and 7th innings. After Butto came in Chris Devenski allowed 1 run and 1 hit across 1.1 innings.
The Mets would lose 7-1.
Game 3:
Trying to avoid the sweep, the Mets would lose yet again this time 5-0.
Starting pitcher Clay Holmes struggled since the start of the game, allowing 4 runs through 3.2 innings. Runs came from a Machado 2-run single in the 2nd inning, and a Gavin Sheets 2-run homer in the 3rd inning.
The Padres added to their lead with a Jackson Merrill sac fly to bring home Tatis in the 9th inning.
On offense, the Mets went a combined 3 for 30 and struck out 10 times.
