When Mark Vientos’ back is against the wall, he performs at his best.
Right now, with 10 games into the season, it seems that Mark Vientos has never looked better, batting .476 with a home run, 4 RBIs, and a 1.236 OPS.
“I think it has to do with the game plan all of us are doing before the game with the hitting coaches and as a team we are talking about our plan at the plate and just letting the results happen.” said Mark Vientos.
This hot start for the 26-year-old comes just weeks after having a horrible spring training for the Mets and WBC with Nicaragua.
In Port St. Lucie, Vientos hit .057, .280 OPS with a home run and two RBIs across 11 games and 37 plate appearances. With team Nicaragua, Vientos went 2-15 with 0 home runs and 0 RBIs with six strikeouts.
"It's good to see it, especially after what he went through in spring training,” said Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza.
“We kept telling him, 'It's spring training. Keep hitting the ball hard. Keep controlling the strike zone.' As a human, and as a competitor, they want to see results. It's just good to see him having the start he's having right now.”
Vientos is coming off a huge series in San Francisco, where he helped lead the Mets to three straight wins.
In 12 at-bats, he recorded 7 hits and walked twice. He also contributed three RBIs and four runs to the 24 runs the Mets scored across that stretch.
"I'm focused on the process and focused on having good at-bats and letting the rest fall into place," Vientos said.
The resurgence of Vientos also comes after a rough 2025 season.
Following a 2024 campaign where he slashed .266 with 27 home runs, 77 RBIs and a .838 OPS in the regular season and hit .327 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in the postseason. But that success didn’t carry into 2025, he batted .233 with a .702 OPS with a -0.2 WAR.
With the strong start to 2026 Vientos appears to have regained his confidence.
"I feel like myself, I feel good,” Vientos said.
And through the first 10 games of the season, the results are backing that up.
