This past week, David Stearns and company decided to pull the trigger and call up their #3 prospect and #1 pitching prospect, Nolan McLean, to make his MLB debut vs the Mariners, and he shined.
The North Carolina native struck out Randy Arozarena looking to start his debut off with a bang. He followed that up with another strikeout in the 1st, this time against Josh Naylor to close out the side.
After a 1-2-3 inning in the 2nd, McLean got out of a bases-loaded 1-out jam in the 3rd. The righty got out of the jam thanks to his defense, after a liner to his glove, threw to second, and Baty turned and threw to Alonso to get the double play.
In the bottom of that inning, Lindor hit an RBI double to bring Baty home, make the score 1-0, and give McLean run support heading into the 4th.
In the 4th, McLean had his second 1-2-3 inning, and after giving up a leadoff hit to start the 5th, McLean got out of the inning unscathed, and the Mets would retain the lead.
The 5th inning would be his last after he walked Cal Raleigh and struck out Julio RodrĂguez, and he would be pulled after 92 pitches.
McLean would finish the game, pitching 5.1 innings, giving up 2 hits, 4 walks, 0 runs, and striking out 8 in his MLB debut.
The 24-year-old is scheduled to pitch again on Friday vs the Nationals in DC.
