Mets Trade For Peralta in Blockbuster Deal

If there was any question of what the Mets were looking to do at starting pitching this offseason, it has now been put to rest after New York completed a blockbuster deal to acquire Freddy Peralta from the Brewers.
In what could be the biggest trade the best have done since the Lindor trade, the Mets acquire RHP Freddy Peralta and RHP Tobias Myers from the Brewers in return for Jett Williams (#30 MLB prospect) and Brandon Sproat (#5 Mets prospect).
The Mets' new ace is coming off a career year in 2025, where he posted a 2.70 ERA, 1.075 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 176.2 innings pitched, and in 33 games started. That huge performance has led him to being selected to an All-Star game while finishing 5th in CY Young voting.
Overall, in his career, the righty has been selected to two All-Star games and has spent all his days in Milwaukee since his debut in 2018. In Peralta’s eight-year MLB career, he has posted a 3.59 ERA, 1.132 WHIP, 11.1 K/9, and a .625 win percentage.
Peralta, 29, will be heading into a contract year and is looking for a big payday when the time comes for his new deal.
The other player New York got was relief pitcher Tobias Myers, who has been in the majors for 2 years, and in 2025, made the transition from being a full-time starter to a relief pitcher. In 2025, in 22 appearances, the 27-year-old put up a 3.55 ERA with a 1.362 WHIP across 50 innings pitched.
Myers will be under team control until 2030 and has upside as both a reliever and a starter.
In the trade, the Mets gave up two of their best prospects, Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat. Starting pitcher Brandon Sproat, who was ranked the 5th best prospect in the Mets farm system, pitched a 4.79 ERA and a 1.210 WHIP in four games started after being called up in September. Along with Sproat, the Brewers received the 30th best prospect in MLB, and the Mets 3rd best prospect.
This trade rounds out an impressive week for Stearns after signing Bo Bichette and Luis Robert Jr. just a couple of days ago.
