While centerfield isn’t a top-of-the-list need for the Mets, they could still look to acquire a centerfielder after struggles from Tyrone Taylor and a season-ending injury to Jose Siri. With Jeff McNeil finding success in the outfield, they could still look to upgrade and move Jeff back to 2nd base.
Here are the options:
Luis Robert Jr. - White Sox
The most flashy player the Mets could grab at the deadline is the 27-year-old Luis Robert Jr.. In 2025, Luis’s batting average has not been great, with a .206 average, 10 home runs, 41 RBIs, and a .636 OPS. However, his defense and base-stealing ability have made up for it as he is 5th in the AL in stolen bases with 26. Robert is under a hefty contract that has him paying him 20 million in ‘26 and ‘27 while having him under team control until 2028, so there could be some cash involved in the trade.
Cedric Mullins - Orioles
Another player the Mets could look at is 30-year-old Cedric Mullins, whose contract is expiring at the end of the year. At the plate, Mullins has hit a .214 average with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, and a .692 OPS. In the field. Mullins has a .985 fielding percentage and is in the 78th percentile in fielding range.
Luis Robert Jr. is certainly the most likely option and could be pretty cheap as well, with the White Sox wanting to get his contract off their hands.
