The Mets' biggest need this deadline is certainly relievers. After injuries to AJ Minter, Max Kranick, and more, the Mets need to fill the biggest hole on their team. The front office has already been active in trades for the bullpen after acquiring Gregory Soto from the Orioles, but they are certainly not done and will look to add a couple more names.
Here is who they can target:
Griffin Jax
Probably the most likely option is Twins righty Griffin Jax. In 45 innings pitched this year, Jax has posted a 4.00 ERA with 14 K/9. Against right-handed batters, Jax has a 3.63 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP.
David Bednar
As the Pirates consistently look like one of the worst teams in the league, they are going to look to dump a lot of the players under expiring contracts, and David Bednar is one of them. Across 37 innings pitched, Bednar has a 2.19 ERA; against lefties, he has a 0.95 ERA, while against righties he has a 3.50 ERA.
Jhoan Duran
The most expensive option could be Twins closer Jhoan Duran. Across 47 innings pitched, Duran has a 1.90 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts, while allowing only one home run, along with 16 saves. As Duran is a closer, acquiring him would mean he would be moved out of that role to become a setup man for Diaz. He is also a free agent after this season.
Kyle Finnegan
An in-division trade with the Nationals is not likely, but should not be ruled out. The right-hander has pitched a 4.62 ERA across 38 appearances. Against right-handed batters, Finnegan has been better, pitching a 3.06 ERA with 15 strikeouts.
